Obituary for Lorraine E. Spaulding

Lorraine E. (Hadley) Spaulding, 61, of Dixon, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon, IL.

Lorri was a woman of deep, vibrant, and joyful Christian faith who radiated the love of Jesus in all that she did. She faced her long battle with ovarian cancer with faith and determination. She had a special passion for teaching and a love of children. She was a gifted and creative music teacher, a lifelong Sunday school teacher, director of Vacation Bible Schools, and a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dixon.

Lorri was born on February 15, 1957 in Rochester, NY to Everett and Mary (Gartley) Hadley and grew up in Gates, NY. She married David Spaulding on August 11, 1979 and was the mother of two daughters, Anne Spaulding of Albany, NY and Christine Spaulding of Brooklyn, NY.

She studied music education at SUNY Fredonia and the University of Buffalo. She taught in a number of schools, including Northeastern Clinton Central School in New York and Marengo-Union School District in Illinois, and taught many private students. She was an active member of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.

Lorri had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in many church choirs. She was an accomplished clarinetist, a veteran of almost twenty years in the orchestra pit for the Chazy, NY Music Theatre. She performed with the Plattsburgh, NY Community Orchestra and the Dixon Municipal Band. She surrounded her homes with beautiful flower gardens and was a founding member of the Dixon Community Garden. She remained active in her many volunteer activities until the last weeks of her life.

In addition to her husband and daughters she is survived by a sister, Esther Hadley Lewis (Scott) of North Chili, NY, a brother-in-law, Robert Spaulding of East Concord, NY, and a sister-in-law Jeanne Spaulding of Springville, NY, several nieces, a nephew, grand-nieces and nephews, and a beloved maltipoo Melody.

Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, December 6, 2018. A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m., on December 7, 2018 with the Rev. James McCrea and the Rev. Rachel Cocar officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established at First Presbyterian Church of Dixon, Home of Hope Cancer Wellness Center, and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
